Humpty Dumpty Missed His Great Fall

June 22nd, 2008 | Posted by taileong

as the newly elected president for foochow association of klang, my uncle was granted 2 tables in last night’s agm dinner (at least i think it was an agm dinner). all my relatives in selangor made their appearance, except amos’ family.

alot of chitchat and catchin up happened, and what i saw on the menu put a smile on my face. haven’t been back to sitiawan for 10 weeks, i’ve already missed the food, and seein dishes like foochow’s specialty fishball and longevity noodles made me feel like home again… at least for a while.

at the beginnin of the event, we were entertained with 2 songs by this real lala auntie, dressed in a fully glitter-ish shirt. as if that wasn’t enough, she started singin in that high pitch gibberish voice, which i couldn’t get a single mandarin word she sang. even my chinese educated cousins have no idea!

when the torturin moment was finally over, i scoop a bowl of the fishball soup, and tried the fishball. nah, it’s nowhere near to what my granda made, but if you have never try a home-made foochow fishball, then you’ll find this absolutely delicious. knowin that the first dish was already that bad, my cousins and i started havin doubts on the followin dishes.

next on the menu was shark fin soup. my cousin said “how bad can shark fin soup be? there’s no way they could screw that up.” that’s where she was wrong =) the so-called shark fin soup tasted chicken-ish, which was absolutely horrible. the only dishes edible that night was the longevity noodles in kolo mee style. funny, i always thought longevity noodles are the noodles used in red wine noodles.

as i forgot to mention, at the start of the dinner, each table was entitled 10 coupons for a lucky draw event throughout the night. who will stand a chance to win those awesome hampers? let’s find out.

forgive me for the blurry image, as it was taken with my phone’s camera

as the night proceeds, the size of the prize hampers gets bigger and bigger. when it came to the last hamper for that night, a familar lucky draw number was called out. when it was repeatedly called, my shark fin soup cousin realized that the number called belonged to my youngest cousin, who was busy playin games on his dad’s mobile set!

hurryin up the stage, the little one was excited and thrilled to be able to win the largest hamper for the night. not like he knows what is it anyway. things turned hilarious when he was supposed to hold the hamper for photo session on the stage. he was seen imbalance tryin to lift a hamper almost his own size! luckily, my uncle (the one mentioned in the first sentence of this post) helped him to hold the hamper on stage.

the hamper won was as tall as his neck

in fact, instead of bein a good cousin and rush up to help him carry, i sat on my chair laughin with the rest of my relatives, while another cousin of mine went to his rescue. the event finally ended at 10 somethin.
