I Kissed a Gurl, but Not in SG!

January 3rd, 2009 | Posted by P.I.T.H.S.O.H

Howdie fellas…as you guys have all known I was in Singapore a week ago…I discovered something…no…not that I couldn’t land a hot hook-up in Singapore (not even trying okay?)…but to find Katy Perry‘s song, “I Kissed A Girl“… was banned in Singapore…apparently due to some ‘implicit’ references to ‘unnatural sex‘ in the song…whoots!?!?! I was like wtf?!?! How could they ban Katy?! sobs…T_T….I thought Katy was hot…female gays are hot…and the song’s hot….

Niceeee.....

I thought thats what everyone thinks…oh well poor Katy….now for her it’s kinda like :

“I kissed a girl, and I liked it….but I can’t do it in SG,

I kissed a girl just to try it…but Lee Kuan Yew dun like it”

I thought the song’s just ‘okay’ when I first hear it…but it kinda grows in me…you know what I’m saying…Her ‘Hot N Cold‘ pretty awesome too!

katy (thru her watermelon phone): "Woei Uncle Lee, why you ban my song ah?!"

katy (thru her watermelon phone): "Woei Uncle Lee, why you ban my song ah?!"

I was so deprived of good music when I was at uni…yea seemed like I was living in a hole…not that I don’t have a radio…don’t have access to the internet or shits….I don’t know why I just don’t get those good music…it’s so bad that I only get to know about Katy’s “Hot N Cold” when I got back here…and I’m pretty sure that song’s been around for quite some time already…

Like when I’m not at home (at uni)…I could only get things like techno / house , those sorta things on the radio…and some good dose of indie stuffs too but I’m more inclined towards R&B, rock those kinda things…so my new year resolution…(one of my many)…would be to try to get connected and not to deprive myself again…

and btw…there’s this band I wanna talk about…its “MGMT“…not a new band…i got to know them pretty late….again due to the fact that I’m living in a hole…it’s just this band that pretty popular like a few months ago, amongst the uni folks…it’s pretty decent stuff…like some sorta mixture of electronica / psychedelic and indie rock stuff…kinda unique in a way…

MGMT – Kids

PS…try listen to the songs a couple of times….I didn’t like them very much at first, but after a while it gets kinda nice…

    Gosh, talk about censorship!

  3. PhysicsNerd Says:

    Dear Webmasters,

I think that the claim is very valid, that this song is not being aired due to Singaporean views against homosexuality. Before I continue, I would like to point out that I’m neither against nor for homosexuality.
But I would also like to say that it is hard for the government to decide to censor certain things. Singapore is NOT entirely racially harmonious. The ‘racial harmony’ that is portrayed on the surface is simply an image conjured up by the government to GET Singapore to be racially harmonious. Therefore, all racist material is censored. In addition, the government censors any bad comments about themselves, to make the population believe that it is in the hands of a good government. It is very, very difficult for only certain things to be censored, such as racist comments, but not censor others, such as issues on homosexuality. Take the United States for example. It is a free country, but do you see the racial tension, social unrest and precarious balance in the country that this has caused? Any uncensored racial comment could spark riots. Obama has already been a victim of attempted assassination by the 3-K for being black.
So before we complain about over-censorship in Singapore, consider all things else as well.

    Yours Sincerely,
    An Indian Singaporean.
